Genisom L1-W EDU Wheeled Quadruped Robot
Many research teams do not want a finished navigation product. They want a capable robot with good sensors and full access to the software, so they can write, replace and benchmark their own SLAM, planning and control code. The Genisom L1-W EDU is built for exactly that. It takes GENISOM AI's fast wheel leg L1-W platform, adds 100 TOPS of onboard computing, a 3D LiDAR, depth camera, RTK GNSS and 5G, and leaves the autonomy stack open for you to build.
Key Features
Wheel Leg Platform
Powered wheels on articulated legs combine efficient rolling with the ability to step and climb. GENISOM lists a sprint speed above 5.5 m/s, a 10 kg continuous walking load, obstacles up to 65 cm, continuous climbing of 16 cm stairs and a 40° extreme climbing angle. Wheel drive also keeps operating noise as low as 55 dB, useful in labs and classrooms.
100 TOPS for Your Own Algorithms
An NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX 16 GB module provides up to 100 TOPS of AI computing, enough to run perception networks, mapping and learned control policies directly on the robot instead of on a tethered laptop.
Integrated Sensor Suite
A 3D LiDAR and depth camera come pre installed, giving researchers laser point cloud, depth vision and visible light data for perception fusion. A GNSS module with RTK antenna supports precise outdoor positioning, and a 5G module provides long range connectivity.
Open Software Baseline
The L1-W EDU supports RoamerX Open, available on GitHub, which provides demo level localization and navigation for education and innovation projects. Teams can use it as a starting point, study it, or replace it entirely with their own stack.
Open Interfaces and SDK
Interfaces include Ethernet, a power port, SBUS and RS485, and USB 3.0 ports for both the Orin NX and the main controller. GENISOM's full machine SDK opens motion, video stream and status interfaces for secondary development.
Reinforcement Learning Motion Control
GENISOM describes the L1-W as the first production wheel leg robot with an AI reinforcement learning motion control algorithm, providing a stable, adaptive base for higher level research.
Built to Take Knocks
IP54 protection, a 0 to 40 °C operating range and a 360° protective body with a soft outer gel on the head and tail help the robot survive the bumps and falls that come with student and research use.

Who Should Buy the Genisom L1-W EDU?
Buy the L1-W EDU if your team wants full control of the software and a fast, wheel leg robot with the computing and sensors already integrated. It suits university labs, robotics courses, AI researchers and developers who plan to write their own autonomy stack and want to avoid the cost and time of integrating hardware themselves.
Which Should You Buy?
| If you need... | Choose |
|---|---|
| Wheel leg hardware with computing and sensors, and your own software | L1-W EDU |
| The same hardware with ready to deploy navigation | L1-W EDU RoamerX Pro |
| A fully legged platform with the same EDU package | L1 EDU |
| A lower cost wheel leg robot without the EDU package | L1-W |
| Heavy payloads and IP67 sealing for industrial work | Genisom M1 family |
Before You Buy
- Check your software plans: RoamerX Open is demo level; if you need production navigation, consider the RoamerX Pro edition.
- Confirm ROS and SDK support: ask which ROS versions and SDK languages are supported for your team.
- Plan session length: budget spare batteries for long lab days or field tests.
- Check connectivity: confirm 5G band support and SIM requirements in your country.
- Plan RTK: high accuracy positioning may need a base station or correction service.
- Match the environment: IP54 and 0 to 40 °C suit labs, campuses and light outdoor use.
